MINPOSTEL and their messages

Ignorance of the law in itself is criminal. This particular adage has become inconsequential in Cameroon 🇨🇲. We however gobble it up and like every other positive adage, shrug it aside as a pariah bound to happen only to the unfortunate individuals who bear no power or have no leverage to lean on to (a majority of the population).

Ignorance of the law is no excuse in any country. If it were, the laws would lose their effect, because it can always be pretended. Thomas Jefferson

We have watched several high ranking and potentially influential individuals get away with so much more for so long we have become numb to these offenses. Change is constant, but it has learned to be stagnant in our own land of promise.

Transgressors according to our own constitution and laws, do “it” these days with impunity because from their high horses, they know, they will never have their day in court before their peers; neither will they be prosecuted for their acts; and even when they do, they exist literally no recourse for others not to engage in such behavior going forward.

Our laws don’t have deterrent potential, they rather serve as positive reinforcement for negative behavior.

So when MINPOSTEL makes these messages and has them sent to every Cameroonian lucky enough to have a mobile phone with SMS capabilities (which we applaud), it is expedient that they take it one step further and push legislation that will actually hold people accountable at all levels of society… and they should go one step further in their campaign and help us tell Cameroonians to engage in their civic duties
